Lemonade by Circa Waves Featuring Alfie Templeman

Circa Waves is a British indie rock band consisting of four members, formed in Liverpool, UK back in 2013. The group is composed of Kieran Shudall (vocals, guitar), Sam Rourke (bass), Colin Jones (drums), and Joe Falconer (guitar).
What makes their recent track particularly intriguing is its origin during the pandemic lockdown. Despite the challenges of isolation, this upbeat tune managed to capture our attention. The song, titled ‘Lemonade,’ features Alfie Templeman on vocals and was initiated over two years ago. It underwent various refinements and transformations, gaining renewed significance during the enforced lockdown period.
This experience highlights the resilience of the creative and recording process, demonstrating that even isolation couldn’t hinder their artistic journey. In a way, it’s a testament to the idea that art, much like life itself, has a remarkable ability to adapt and endure.
Frontman Kieran Shuddall compared their recording process to the “Postal Service scenario,” referring to the famous collaboration between Death Cab For Cutie’s Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello. Just as those artists exchanged tapes to create music, Circa Waves navigated their recording through remote means. Shuddall recalls coordinating with band members over the phone, with guitar and bass parts being emailed back and forth, and even drums recorded in a friend’s garage and sent digitally. This approach was a necessity during the height of isolation, resulting in the distinct sound that defines the track.
